Privacy Policy
DavidLeeAuthor.com is a small personal author website. It collects very little - a contact form you choose to fill in, and anonymous visitor statistics. Here is exactly what that means.
What is collected
Personal information means information about an identifiable individual - a name, an email address, and anything you choose to write to me.
This site collects personal information in exactly one place: the contact form. When you submit it, the following is sent to my email inbox:
- the name you enter;
- the email address you enter;
- the topic, subject line and message you write;
- the IP address the submission came from, and the time it was sent, recorded to help identify spam.
There is no account system, no newsletter signup, and no comment section. If you are only reading, the single thing recorded is an anonymous page view through Google Analytics, described under Cookies and analytics below - nothing that identifies you, and nothing you have to fill in.
How it is used
Contact form submissions are used only to read and reply to your message. They are not added to a mailing list, sold, rented, or shared for marketing.
Your information is disclosed to others only where the law requires it, or where it is necessary to deal with abuse of the form.
Third parties
A few services are involved in delivering this site. Each has its own privacy policy, and visiting or using them is subject to their terms rather than mine.
- Web host and email provider. The server that runs this site processes ordinary web server logs, and carries contact form messages to my inbox.
- Google Fonts. Typefaces are loaded from Google's font servers, so Google receives your IP address and browser information when a page loads.
- Google Analytics. Aggregate visitor statistics, described under Cookies and analytics below.
- Amazon. Book links point to Amazon. Following one takes you onto Amazon's site, where Amazon's own privacy practices apply.
- Buy Me a Coffee. The support link and QR code lead to buymeacoffee.com. Any payment details you enter there are handled entirely by that service - I never see or store them.
- Facebook, Instagram and X. Plain outbound links only. No tracking pixels, embedded feeds, or social scripts run on this site.
Cookies and analytics
This site uses Google Analytics 4 to see, in aggregate, which pages people read and roughly where visitors arrive from. That is the only tracking here: there is no advertising, no remarketing, and no profile is built about you as a person.
Google Analytics stores a small identifier in your browser and uses your IP address to work out an approximate location. Google does not retain that IP address in its logs. What reaches me is counts and averages - "so many people opened the Books page this week" - never a list of individuals. Analytics data is not sold, and is not shared for marketing.
You can opt out at any time by:
- installing Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on;
- blocking cookies or third-party scripts in your browser settings; or
- using any of the common content blockers, which stop the script from loading at all.
Nothing on this site breaks if you do. No other cookies are set: there is no advertising, no embedded social feeds, and no consent-tracking cookie.
Retention and security
Contact messages are kept in my email for as long as they are useful for correspondence and record keeping, and are then deleted. Server logs are retained for the short period my host keeps them.
Reasonable measures are used to protect the information in my care against loss, misuse, unauthorised access, disclosure and modification. The site is served over HTTPS. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, so please do not send sensitive personal or financial information through the contact form.
Your rights
You may ask me what personal information I hold about you, ask for a copy of it, ask me to correct an error in it, or ask me to delete it. Write to the address below with enough detail for me to identify the correspondence you mean, and I will respond within 45 calendar days.
You may also withdraw your consent to my use of your information at any time, unless I need to keep it to meet a legal obligation.
Questions or concerns
If you have a question or concern about how personal information is handled on this site, please get in touch.
